My Journey As A Breastfeeding Buddy
Hi, I’m Carole-Ann and my journey as a volunteer initially began some years ago when my Son’s were young. Along with other Mom’s I volunteered in our local primary school offering support within the classroom setting. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the children and supporting staff and went onto gain a Class Room Assistant qualification.
Some years later I had the opportunity to train as a Breastfeeding Buddy and volunteered at a local Children’s centre supporting Mom’s and their babies with breastfeeding. It was a wonderful, fulfilling experience to be able to provide Mom’s at a very special and personal time in their lives with the support, guidance and information they needed to establish and maintain a positive breastfeeding experience. Whilst volunteering a further opportunity arose for a paid post on a new project ‘The Breastfeeding Support Helpline’ and 2 years along we’re established and offering support and guidance in conjunction with healthcare professionals for those Mom’s who request support.
My journey as a volunteer has allowed me to enjoy a career I am passionate about, supporting Mom’s, babies and families and would thoroughly recommend volunteering to all. The Breastfeeding support Helpline is available Monday-Friday 9.45-1.45 on 01384 814545.
